A judge is expected to rule Friday on whether Ruben Torres Maldanado, a father whose daughter is battling a rare and aggressive form of cancer, will be released from ICE detention.
Mr. Torres Maldanado has lived in the United States since 2003 and is the sole provider for his family, including his 16-year-old daughter Ofelia, who is receiving treatment at Lurie Children’s Hospital.
HSPRD attorneys Kalman Resnick, Charlie Wysong and Naiara F. Testai represent Mr. Torres Maldanado and have urged for his immediate release so he can be with his daughter during this critical time. The judge has taken the case under advisement and is expected to issue a ruling in the morning.
HSPRD remains committed to standing with families in moments of crisis and to defending the rights and dignity of all individuals impacted by our nation’s immigration system.
