President Trump issued a series of Executive Orders on January 20, 2025, that threaten immigrants and their families with greatly increased immigration enforcement. The President and his newly appointed immigration enforcement team are threatening to conduct raids in immigrant communities and workplaces that employ immigrants and pursue a policy of mass deportation.
The National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) has emphasized the importance for immigrant families to know their rights so that they are prepared for encounters with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“ICE”). NIJC’s “Know Your Rights” resources provide vital information to prepare for immigrant families for such encounters, including:
- Know Your Rights: What to Do if You or a Loved One is Detained
- Know Your Rights: Prepare for Trump’s Mass Deportation Threats
- Know Your Rights: If You Encounter ICE
The NIJC’s comprehensive resources can be found at https://immigrantjustice.org/know-your-rights. These materials are designed to empower individuals with the knowledge needed to protect themselves and their loved ones during encounters with ICE.
It is crucial for allies, advocates, and community members to stand in solidarity with immigrant families during this challenging time. This includes sharing accurate information, supporting local immigrant advocacy organizations, and fostering an environment of inclusion and support. Together, we can counter fear with facts and ensure that the rights and dignity of all individuals are upheld.
