HSPRD announces attorney Kate Schwartz’s appointment to the board of Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights.

HSPRD is proud to announce the recent appointment of Partner Kate Schwartz to the board of the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights, a highly respected nonprofit legal organizations that has been responding to the City’s most critical civil rights challenges for over 50 years. The Chicago Lawyers’ Committee partners communities with attorneys committed to advancing racial equity and economic opportunity for all through pro bono legal representation.

HSPRD is a longstanding member of the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee and has partnered with the organization on various cases including Lewis v. City of Chicago: a class action in which our clients challenged the Chicago Fire Department’s discriminatory hiring practices that disproportionately excluded Black people. Plaintiffs ultimately prevailed at trial, in the court of appeals, and before the U.S. Supreme Court.  We are proud that Kate will represent our firm as a member of the CLC Board and carry forward our long and close relationship with this important civil rights organization.

Ms. Schwartz litigates in state and federal courts representing clients in a broad range of complex litigation matters, with a concentration in the areas of civil rights, constitutional, and employment law.  She has been repeatedly recognized by Leading Lawyers Network as an Emerging Lawyer recommended in Civil Rights/Constitutional Law and Employment Law and by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in the area of Civil Rights litigation.  In 2018, Ms. Schwartz was honored by the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless for providing outstanding contributions to justice for those experiencing homelessness in the course of her civil rights practice.
