HSPRD Settles Hospice Whistleblower Claim in $54 Million Deal

HSPRD attorneys Matthew PiersJuliet Berger-WhiteCaryn Lederer, and Charlie Wysong represented the relator-plaintiff in a case that settled as part of a $54 million global settlement of multiple cases . The case was brought against  Nevada hospice provider Creekside Hospice II, LLC and its corporate parent Skilled Healthcare Group Inc., which were subsequently combined with Genesis Healthcare Inc. The case alleged that Creekside violated the False Claims Act by submitting false claims to Medicare for hospice services for patients who were ineligible for reimbursement and for inappropriate physician charges. Along with co-counsel, HSPRD represented Joanne Cretney-Tsosie, a registered nurse and former clinical manager at Creekside Hospice, who initiated this lawsuit under the qui tam provisions of the False Claims Act.

HSPRD represents private-citizen whistleblowers across the country in reporting fraud against government programs through cases brought under federal and state false claims laws.
