Four people were taken into custody after clashes between ICE agents and protesters outside the federal immigration facility in Broadview on Friday. HSPRD immigration attorney Kalman Resnick was interviewed by CBS News Chicago on what those individuals could face if charges are filed.

In a separate incident in Bolingbrook, a group of U.S. citizens reported being stopped by ICE agents while in a Culver’s parking lot. They said they were blocked in and asked to prove their citizenship.

“ICE officers should only be detaining people if they have a reasonable basis to believe the person is not legally in the United States,” Resnick explained. He added that since a recent Supreme Court decision, more people are carrying documents such as a driver’s license, passport, or birth certificate in case they are questioned. That decision, Resnick noted, effectively allows ICE to detain individuals based solely on appearance.

Protesters have stated they will continue to exercise their First Amendment rights outside the Broadview facility.
