HSPRD is proud to support the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago’s Young Professional Board’s annual Justice is Served event on April 10, 2015. LAF is a wonderful organization that provides critical legal help to those most in need in our community. LAF’s announcement regarding HSPRD’s support and interview with HSPRD partner Caryn Lederer about her work for the board can be found here.
Justice is Served 2015 will be held at The Tortoise Club, featuring live entertainment from John Wade Jazz and a silent auction. Tickets for the evening are $150 and can be purchased here. All proceeds from the evening benefit LAF in its mission to provide free legal services to people living in poverty across the Chicagoland area.
For over 40 years, LAF (formerly the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago) has provided free legal services in non-criminal matters to people living in poverty in metropolitan Chicago. At LAF, we make equal justice a reality for over 40,000 of the most vulnerable members of our community. At LAF we work together to provide high quality civil legal services to people living in poverty and other vulnerable groups. Through advocacy, education, collaboration, and litigation, we empower individuals, protect fundamental rights, strengthen communities, create opportunities, and achieve justice. In carrying out our mission, we treat everyone with compassion and respect.
In a single year, LAF has:
- Helped more than 1,600 families whose homes were in foreclosure
- Kept 6,400 people from homelessness by preventing unfair evictions or saving subsidized housing vouchers.
- Assisted over 9,000 women and children to begin new lives free from abuse, thanks to the orders of protection, child custody, child support, divorces and other supports we obtained for them.
