On February 13, 2018, HSPRD partners Dina Torrisi Martin and Maire Dempsey secured a defense verdict on behalf of a Chicago-area hospital. Plaintiffs alleged the nurses were negligent in failing to put appropriate fall protocols into place and prevent an 86 year-old woman from falling and fracturing her hip. The case was tried in April 2017; however, a mis-trial was declared after the jury hung 9-3 for the defense. After a week-long retrial, the jury deliberated for fewer than two hours over lunch before returning a defense verdict.
